CENTRAL WATER DISTRICT SEEKS APPLICANTS TO FILL BOARD VACANCY
The Central Water District (CWD) is seeking public-service-oriented applicants interested in the intricacies of the water industry to fill a vacant position on its Board of Directors.
Applications for the Board of Directors vacancy must be received by June 17, 2025. Interviews will be conducted, and an appointment made at the June Board Meeting (scheduled for June 18th). The partial term will commence in July of 2025 and continue until November 2028, at which time the appointee can run for a full four-year term.
Applicants are required to:
- Be a registered voter
- Reside in the District’s service area
- Attend regular Board meetings (third Wednesday of each month)
- Read and digest monthly board packets (20-150 pages)
The Board of Directors has oversight over Central Water District and appoints the District Manager to handle day-to-day operations. The Directors have the power to set the budget, set water rates, and establish policies that support the vision and mission of the District. The Board meets monthly to provide direction to the staff on month-to-month activities and projects. Directors have to remain objective and responsive to the needs of the public they serve. Directors also serve on the District's standing committees and may represent the District on the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency as a Board Member.

The deadline to apply is June 17, 2025. Interviews and an appointment will be conducted at the June 18, 2025 regularly scheduled monthly Board Meeting.
This District Board has 60 days from the date the board is notified of the vacancy or the effective date of the vacancy, whichever is later, to fill the vacancy by appointment or call a special election. Gov. Code §1780. Pursuant to Government Code §1780, this notice will be posted for 15 days in 3 or more conspicuous locations in the districts from May 22, 2025 to June 5, 2025.
